Finesse shots have become a lot less overpowered in FIFA 13 compared to previous versions of FIFA. In FIFA 12 and before, if you were at a decent angle outside the box and took a finesse shot with a fairly good player, you used to score all the time!
But so many players have complained about this and how it isn’t at all realistic (which I agree with) and EA have responded by pretty much killing the finesse shot.
The picture above is the ideal finesse position, you’re at a perfect angle to whip the ball round the goalkeeper in to the far corner, but now a lot of these shots aren’t working for us.
So when should I use it?
When you’re 1 v 1 with the goalkeeper – This is the ideal time to use it. The standard shot is often too “straight” for a 1 v 1 and will usually hit the keeper whereas a finesse shot will curl around the keeper and in to the net. But be aware, if your player doesn’t have good finishing or curve stats, finesse shots are much less effective.
Here is a list of players with the finesse trait. These players will be significantly better at performing finesse shots than other players.
Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
David Silva (Manchester City)
Andrea Pirlo (Juventus)
Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Juan Mata (Chelsea)
Antonio Cassano (Inter Milan)
Antonio Di Natale (Udinese)
David Villa (Barcelona)
If you’re a big fan of the finesse shot, then give some of these players a shot!
